How to Take the Stress Out of Moving

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articlesbacklink.com/rss.php?rss=92
By : Wendy Moyer

There's no doubt about it ¬' moving from one home to another is one of the most stressful things we can do in our life. It's not bad enough that we have to pack up everything we own, leave our home, and move to a brand new place. If we hire a moving company we also have to entrust everything we own to complete strangers for transportation and delivery.

It's not surprising that our level of stress can soar.

I suppose if you're one of those people who changes residences quite regularly this won't apply to you, but most of us don't move often enough to get used to the process. For the most part we're like babes in the woods. However, if you know what to do and you approach your move logically you can reduce a lot of your stress.

The hardest part of the move is choosing which moving company to hire. Read this article and you'll learn how to find the best moving company for your purposes.

In order to have the widest selection of moving companies you should plan on choosing your company a minimum of four to six weeks before your move. If you wait too long the best companies will already be booked, so begin the process as soon as you have a pretty good estimate of your moving day.

Keep in mind that most movers are the busiest at month's end, and on Fridays and weekends. They may even charge you a premium for those days. If you ask what their quiet days are and ask for a discount if you move on those days you may be pleasantly surprised to hear them say "yes".

Before making your calls you should decide (1) whether you will pack or want them to pack for you, (2) if you plan on buying or hiring their packing materials, (3) if you want them to unpack your belongings at your new home, and (4) whether or not they have the storage facilities that you may need.

In order to get the best quotes you will need to know if they will transport fragile or valuable items, the amount of things you want them to move, and how much insurance you will need.

If you are moving close to home the best way to find a reliable company is to ask people you know for recommendations. However if you're moving a considerable distance away your local moving company may not have the experience you need. In that case one of the best sources of moving companies is the Internet.
