Finally having your license to perform massages for the public is quite an accomplishment! You are now ready to start your own business. Here are some basic tips that can help you as you begin this new adventure. Keep in mind that every situation is different. However, there are some practical ideas that remain the same anytime a new business is launched. First of all, it's important to have your business license before beginning your practice. You must review the laws in your area and fill out the necessary forms. Some of these forms may be available online. You will need to find a good location to set up your practice. Of course, it's best to find a place where you will be easily seen by the public and easy for people to find. You may then have to have a zoning referral, fingerprints, background check and other important documents. Another important aspect of opening your new clinic is advertising. While people have different ideas about how to advertise, it's important to remember that advertising is the key to letting people know about your new business. It's especially important in the early stages of your business so people can learn about your business, what you offer, where you are located, how to reach you, etc. While you shouldn't spend huge amounts of money, plan to spend as much as you can. Be sure and hire an advertising agent who can help you get the word out as quickly and cheaply as possible. Once you have the approval to begin practicing, you need to begin looking at the necessary furniture and equipment. You will want to invest in a massage table that is adjustable, lights that provide warm atmosphere and other essential items. Atmosphere is probably the most important ingredient to a good massage clinic. You want your clients to relax and enjoy their massage. Soft music playing in the background, a heater in the winter to keep the room toasty warm, and of course, a convenient place to change their clothes - these are a few of the elements that you will want to incorporate into your new massage room. Last, but not least, you want to build a clientele of people that become regular customers. Be sure and have an attractive business card handy for customers. Be sure and get lots of feedback from your customers each time such as how they felt after their last visit, what you might be able to do differently to help them and any particular areas that are particularly tense or sore. It's important to communicate with your customers on a regular basis as this type of business usually grows through word of mouth. Starting a massage clinic will require hard work, perseverance and patience. However, as you begin to make contacts, your business will grow. You may experience ups and downs, but through it all, you will eventually be able to enjoy a business that will be both successful and profitable.
