Colo is one of the many different types of ISP hosting. Many companies normally opt to purchase a rack space in data centre where they later store their server equipments. This is made possible by the use of colocation. Co-location allows companies to run their own servers through the data centres. With colo, a business doesn't need to store its server equipment on its own premises although it runs its own servers. Because of colo—made possible through cloud hosting the computing system—data centres can house multiple customers. There are a lot of advantages to colo, which will briefly be discussed here. The fact that bandwidth is cheaper on colocation than on a normal situation if they were purchased for a server. This is simply because the bandwidth is shared among many users who divide the cost amongst themselves making the whole idea to be cheap and economical. Colo grants the user complete control over the server, as opposed to just managing it. Thanks to this feature you can update and upgrade your server more efficiently. The reliability of co-location is shown in the fact that the overall work is done on several powerful machines. Likewise this means that the Internet speed is faster, and this in turn could lead to an increase in efficiency. The internal networks are normally freed up for other purposes in the organization. Your entire system is also backed up properly. Co-locationisn't limited to big businesses, however. Small businesses also make use of it since it allows them to offer the services of large companies at a far less cost. Sometimes businesses even just ask co-location centres to maintain their server equipment for them. Colo however, is still more expensive than getting a normal business class web hosting. This means that, if web hosting is all that is needed, it is good to have it hosted than uses a colocation centre host you. Since you need to buy the data center rack space as well as the server, colo also requires a larger capital. Bandwidth charges are also paid monthly. As with every other system, it will need to be upgraded and maintained. This could be more challenging with colo since the equipment is stored at the data center. Hiring someone to do it for you could mean additional costs.
