When you think of visiting England, the places that spring to mind would be London, Edinburgh, Manchester and maybe Cornwall. Birmingham is only a 1.5 hour train journey north of London and an exciting place to visit with just about every kind of activity to suit the whole family.

Birmingham has its own International airport and is far less stressful and busy than arriving at Heathrow or Gatwick. It is fairly central and a short ride away from the city centre.

There are many places to stay, both the large chain hotels are scattered throughout plus the smaller boutique hotels and several country houses.

Birmingham offers great entertainment including several theatres such as the Symphony Hall which is one of the finest concert halls in Europe. Alexandra, Cresent, Hippodrome and the Repertory all have regular concerts, comedians, ballet, opera and other shows.

The famous NEC national exhibition centre is situated on the outskirts of Birmingham and is a great venue to visit.

The Jewellery quarter is famous for producing 40% of UK jewellery. Many shops have their own craftsmen who design bespoke items to suit your requirements. Many graduates have set up small businesses here offering contemporary designs.

If you have children, there are many attractions such as the wonderful and exciting Alton Towers which is full of heart stopping roller coasters, water rides, cable cars plus there are some beautiful gardens and plenty of restaurants for the older generation. Drayton Manor Park has a similar theme and aimed for the slightly younger children. Also, Cadbury World is suitable for all ages and you are very likely to go home with a tummy full of chocolate.

There are plenty of career opportunities in Birmingham and the Midlands area. Several blue chip companies have their headquarters here and the city is full of offices. You will be able to find Jobs by searching the Internet for Job sites and Job boards that focus on vacancies in the Birmingham and Midlands area.

For keen shoppers the Bull Ring is a great place to visit. Recently built, the building appears to look like fish scales. Parking is good and the centre is full of high street stores plus many designer boutiques and an abundance of pubs and restaurants. The famous Selfridges store is located within the Bullring and stocks everything you need on it's 3 floors of designer items.

You could also visit the National Motorcycle Museum or the Thinktank which holds a planetarium. Birmingham is a great place to visit, work and live.
