If the environment is not harmed by a system and the system consumes less possible energy - such system can be said environmentally friendly. Environment pollution is quite a vital issue in present days and natural energy recourses are shrinking as well. This left the only solution for human race that is - searching for environment friendly system. There are some specific criteria that should be fulfilled by a system if we want to make it environment friendly. This is applicable for a managed server too. A server that fulfills such criteria is known as environment friendly managed server host service or green server management. In this article we are going to discuss about the criteria required to fulfill for a green server hosting. Managing power system is the initial and major consideration of a managed dedicated server. A server is nothing but a power consuming giant. Statistic shows that standard managed hosting UK and managed servers consumes about 1000 kWh energy on average and produce 630 kg of CO2 annually which is sure a shocking figure since its quite unbelievable that just by hosting a computer server can cause such damage to the ozone layer. According to a statistic; standard managed hosting UK and managed servers consume about 1000 kWh energy on average and CO2 emission is about 630 kg in annual basis which is quite a shocking and unbelievable amount just for hosting a single computer server. Thus using cleaner energy for server hosting is the only way to reduce carbon emission. Using renewable powers like; wind power, solar power or biomass facilities are the way to ensure such clean energy for managed server. Another way to help the environment is to reduce energy consumption of a server system. The truth is that - only half of total energy required is consume by the server itself and the remaining half is used for maintaining climate condition and cooling purpose. A server needs to run all the time without any break thus temperature controlling is a great issue for the safety of server. Air coolers and liquid cooling systems for data centre cooling are needed for managed hosting service. However if we choose better and environment friendly (as these architecture uses natural flow of air for cooling purpose) architecture for the managed hosting server; we may use the natural cooling which could reduce the number of required cooling device. By choosing a more environment friendly architecture (the architecture which uses natural air flow for cooling purpose) for the managed hosting server; it is possible to reduce the use of cooling device just by utilizing natural cooling system. By using this method one can save a huge amount of power required for managed hosting. Minimizing power consumption also helps to reduce environment pollution. This is the challenge of modern technology as well and for this purpose electronic ICs are designed to consume less power and produce less arrangement for cooling. Unlike and industry, a managed server produce less amount of wastage thus it does not require a very sophisticated recycling system. But a green managed server still requires a standard recycling system to recycle wastage. Controlling excess consumption is also another way for a green managed hosting. By raising the consciousness of people engaged in managing or hosting server, excess consumption can be easily avoided. Try to consume or use what is truly needed for you and no more than that. A simple step like; turning off the device like; printer, light etc after using may help you to reach your goal. You can minimize daily waste by avoid using excess papers. There are many other minor ways beside conventional ones to manage or host a green managed server system and one can apply his own idea to make the server system more eco-friendly.
