MAN or Metro Ethernet Network is used to refer to a huge wired computer network that usually covers a city or metropolitan area. It employs Carrier Ethernet technology which is the same protocol used in most LAN and WAN networks. Some alteration has been adapted here so that the technology continues to be useful over the large area that is covered by the Metro Ethernet. The purpose of this network is to interconnect smaller networks within the same city as well as connect to the internet. There are businesses and institutions that have remote offices that are able to connect their branches through this network. It reduces the cost of communication and makes it possible to share computing resources over longer distances. The key reason as to why most ISPs employ Metro Ethernet technology in their operations is due to the high performance it offers. An ISP that is new in the market is likely to start off with a few clients but with the hope of increased numbers in later days. Offering their services through a Metro Ethernet ensures that the ISP will be able to effectively serve their customers. A growth in customer numbers will not compromise the quality of service that the ISP will deliver to their clients. Currently there are Metro Ethernet service providers who are comfortably serving more than 1.5 million clients in one city. This has without a doubt gone to show the massive capacity the technology provides. All ISP clients have performance at the top of their priorities and any provider who is using a Metro Ethernet service is sure to get a lot of clients coming in. The other reason as to why ISPs prefer to use the Metro Ethernet technology is the fact that it is similar to most LAN, WAN and home networks. Metro Ethernets deploy the same protocol used in majority of these smaller networks. Complete compatibility with most computing networks requires no special equipment or configuration due to the protocol employed. There is no signal conversion involved here and the communication is seamless and efficient. With compatibility, a client is assured of easier access to hardware, technical support and other requirements. It also makes it cheaper for both the Metro Ethernet provider and client as they are both working with standard equipment which is readily available. Together with the other several benefits that have seen ISPs continue to use Metro Ethernet London in their operations. The advanced security offered through the service offers less opportunity for interception of communications is among the benefits. There is ease of capacity upgrades for clients through Metro Ethernet as the capacity is already available. Some of the networks currently available can deliver up to 10GBps. For the clients who require a higher performance on such a network will only need a few adjustments to their equipment and configurations. For these and many other reasons, ISPs will continue using Metro Ethernets as they are the best way to effectively deliver services to clients.
