Online Yellow Pages - A Great Green Way to Get the Information You Want

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articlesbacklink.com/rss.php?rss=24
By : Wendy Moyer

Everybody is probably familiar with the traditional type of yellow pages. It's usually the area towards the back of your local phone book that has business listings. It's often printed on yellow stock - that's how it got its name. If you live in a larger metropolitan area then your yellow pages could be an entirely separate book.

Before the Internet the printed yellow pages were a real help. It was about the only way you could find information about a local company. You just went to wherever you kept this big book, looked up the category you needed help with, and within a few minutes you usually found what you were looking for.

But the World Wide Web has changed all that. Nowadays you can find what you need online. And not only does it take a lot less time, you usually have more choices. And it's easier to use (and certainly weighs a lot less) than the more traditional paper based yellow pages.

In addition, because the information is delivered digitally the online yellow pages are much more friendly to the environment. Because of the internet your local yellow pages are now "green".

You Will Find Millions of Listings in Online Yellow Pages

Many online yellow pages have literally millions of listings. I don't think you'll find that in your local yellow pages. But what you will find is that because so many people are now just dumping their yellow pages into the trash that the companies that are printing them are wasting a phenomenal amount of our precious natural resources.

Local Yellow Pages Are Destroying the Environment

Did you know that there are about 540,000,000 yellow page directories printed every year in the United States? And, in order to print over half a billion directories the companies that print them are wasting 7,200,000 barrels of fossil fuel, they're burning up 3.2 kilowatt hours of electricity, and they've had 19,000,000 trees destroyed. And that's every year.

That's an awful lot of waste and pollution related to printing something that most people don't even use anymore.

What to Do to Stop the Madness

If a printed version of the local yellow pages is delivered to your home in the future, or if you have some just laying around the house, you could either recycle them or use them yourself for other purposes. For example, you could line your pet's cages with them, add them to your compost pile, or use them to wrap things you want to pack.

And, if you're like so many other people that use the online yellow pages, why not get in touch with the company that's been delivering your directories and tell them to stop delivering them to you. Since you have better information available on the Internet, by doing so you can do your part to put an end to having these relics of the past printed and you will help save the environment as well.
