Bed bugs are small and very evasive. Adult that have recently fed can be about a quarter of an inch long, while new hatchlings are much smaller - about the size of a poppy seed. They strike once every few weeks because they are able to live off of your blood until they need to feed again, which is another reason why they can be difficult to detect. Their bites can easily be confused with mosquito bites because they are small and red, and very itchy. To control the itching, it's a good idea to use a cortisone cream, but bed bug control begins by identifying the source of these little critters. 1. Check your mattress to see if there are any holes or crevices in which bed bugs might be hiding. Bed bugs love hidden areas that are dark and compact. These make the perfect homes for their kind. 2. Although bed bugs don't limit their nests to your mattress, it's a great idea to have a plastic or tightly woven cloth mattress cover to kill bedbugs by denying them the food they need. Their eggs will die too if the mothers can't care for them and feed them with human blood. But check in old furniture, couches or pillows to see if there might be any critters hiding. 3. Keeping your house and bedroom clean is another important step in bed bug control. Vacuuming and the reduction of clutter will provide fewer areas where the bugs can hide. Tucking in your sheets and comforter to your mattress to prevent them from touching the floor is an excellent measure to prevent bed bugs from scurrying around and making themselves at home. 4. Identifying the problem is made easier by looking for blood spots, marking previous bed bug dinners. They also shed their skins and leave small feces in hidden areas. Spraying the potential areas with insecticide will kill all of the bugs. Insecticide dust is especially effective. 5. If you have any cracks or holes in your home's exterior, repair them to prevent bed bugs from entering and leaving. Also, rodents and birds may carry the bugs and bring them into your home. Plus, it's better for your house to keep it well maintained! 6. Secondhand luggage and clothing is important to clean well or dry clean. Especially if you have traveled outside of the country, make sure that you clean your belongings to rid them of potential hideouts bugs. Remove your clothing into plastic bags until it's laundry time and then blast those potential runaways with hot water to their death. 7. Calling a licensed professional is the most reliable way to kill bedbugs. Many professionals nowadays use trained beagles to detect the scent of the bugs and thereafter spray the affected areas accordingly. If you suspect bed bugs and are not satisfied with the measures that you can take yourself, call the professionals. They are experienced and are ready to deal with these pests effectively and efficiently.
