How to Design A Blank Tee

If you are interested in a unique design for a shirt and are investing in wholesale blank t shirts, you may not be sure where to go from there. Well this article is for you. These instructions will help you take your design from concept to handmade t shirt, using the bare essentials.

1. If you have Photoshop, you may want to use it or you may want to simply hand draw your design. This step will proceed as though you are using a computer. In the application, begin by layering the image on a bright background color. This contrast will allow you to see more clearly the shape of the design. Use the eraser and the magic wand to do this and apply the background when you're done. Move your image into black and white by going to the Image tab, then Adjustments, then Threshold, and adjusting the slider to your desired look. To smooth some of the pixelating, go to the Filter tab, then Blur and Gaussian Blur. Connect the black areas with the paintbrush or else you will lose those areas when you cut your stencil. Invert the image and print it out on a glossy, heavy paper.

2. Take a thin piece of acetate, or overhead transparency, and tape it over the paper. Cut out the black outline very slowly. You don't want to have to keep repeating the process because of little mistakes.

3. Tape your stencil to your shirt. You may want to protect the blank clothing with newspaper or scrap.

4. With a roller or a cut up sponge you can dab the paint after you have mixed your color with a lot of ink. If you want to practice on paper before trying it on your blank clothing, feel free. Practicing on a rough draft will give you a better idea of how much ink to use, how hard to press, and what other precautions you might want to take before working on the final. When you're ready, dab or paint the fabric on the blank clothing, making sure to keep it in place the while.

5. Remove the stencil, newspaper and roller. Once the ink dries, iron the shirt on high and dry.

6. Wash your new shirt and dry on low with some extra clothing to cut down on the t shirt's wear.

The final result will have the look of a vintage shirt without the wear and tear of an aged piece of clothing. If you don't want to print an image, and just want some words, you can easily substitute the first step by cutting words out of a soft thin foam. It is easily cuttable with an exact - o knife and takes the paint well also.

This process works well if you want to have a business model or if you just want to spend some time crafting a unique t shirt for yourself or a loved one. In any case, the handmade effect is one that is valuable and represents dedication and time. Whoever winds up wearing your shirt will appreciate how it was made.
