Eliminating dust mites with an air purifier can be effective if your cleaner has the following 5 features. Effectively reducing their numbers will improve your air quality and help reduce symptoms from dust mite allergies. Filters for Large and Medium Size Particles---The particles that you can see when sunlight comes in through a window, or that are lying on furniture or the floor vary in size. And because this true, the filters that trap them must vary in size as well. Large and medium size pre-filters are made of a cotton ball-like material that is designed to trap hair, dust, and dirt. One mite can produce 30 to 100 eggs. And the average life span is 30 to 90 days. Infestation happens quickly because they multiply exponentially.. And since the mites don't take a break, your air purifier shouldn't have to either. A motor that can run safely, efficiently, and continuously is key to limiting their numbers. A split capacitor is essential if you are keep numbers low because it is designed to run 24 hours a day every day. Read the technical specifications to make sure your unit has this feature before you make your final decision.. Fresh Air As Only By-Product---Avoid cleaners that produce any amount of ozone. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) states that any amount of ozone is unhealthy.. A cleaner that can send 250 cubic feet of fresh clean air into your space can improve air quality quickly and keep the air fresh and healthy.. 360 Degree Intake---You don't want your air cleaner to have to take center stage in your bedroom. A cleaner that is able to pull in air from all sides is the most flexible in terms of where it can be placed in your room. As long as you leave about 6 inches from any surface you can put the cleaner in a corner, behind a chair, by a wall or dresser, and it will still perform at 100% efficiency.
