Acne: Is There Really A Difference Between Whiteheads And Blackheads?

Nothing can be more embarrassing than waking up in the morning, looking in the mirror, only to see a giant pimple on the end of your nose. Almost everybody alive has experienced that at one point in their lives, so if you are suffering from acne, you are certainly not alone. Before we figure out exactly how to deal with your acne, it can help to understand it first.

There are basically two different kinds of acne, or two different kinds of pimples. They are commonly referred to as blackheads, and whiteheads. Many times people will refer to the whiteheads simply as pimples, while the blackheads get their own special name. In truth, they are both really the same thing. The inside of them is about the same, but a couple of small differences can turn one into a blackhead, and another into a whitehead. But they really are the same thing, which is good news, because they both can be treated the same way.

First of all, we must understand how a pimple is constructed. Most people understand they are because of a clogged pore. This pore that gets clogged is shared by both a hair follicle, and a sebaceous gland which produces sebum or a kind of oil that is designed to keep your skin healthy and moist. Nobody likes oily skin, but the oil is necessary to keep your skin from a host of other, more serious, health problems.

Lets break down the basic structure of a pimple. One pimple consists of a pore that has been clogged, or blocked for one reason or another. The sebaceous gland, not really caring that the pore is blocked, continues to make sebum. The pressure grows inside this blocked gland, and a pimple is formed. This is now called a comedone, and depending on its internal structure, a whitehead or a blackhead will result.

When the bottom of this pimple structure, or the comedone, is closed, you get a normal pimple. The top appears white. When the bottom of the comedone is open, air can get in and will oxidize the material underneath, turning to a blackish color.

The good news is that treating both blackheads and whiteheads can be done by using the same remedy. They only look different, but inside they are pretty much the same. A clogged pore. All you have to do is unclog it. This can be done by drying out the skin, or other methods which will unclog the pore. Proper diet, believe it or not, will go a long way in doing this, as will a reduction in stress levels. There are plenty of proven natural remedies which can achieve this.
