Starting a life with your partner can be a fun time but you will also need to start thinking about owning your own house. The problem with this is that they will come unfurnished and it is likely that you have always stuck to furnished apartments to cut down on the cost of living and moving. When you first start living together, you will need to buy cheap furniture and start room by room. The first place that you will need to make sure is fully furnished is the kitchen. Most of the time you will have the cabinets and a sink, as long as the house does not need renovations, but you will need to find the white goods, including an oven, fridge and freezer. Think about what you will need from the kitchen and start questioning about the items that you need rather than just want. A washing machine should be on your list but you may not need a dish washer or tumble dryer. The bathroom is the next room that you will need to look at. It is likely that you bought a bathroom that already has a good three-piece suite but you will also need to think about a shower. Most of the time, you will need to buy a new electric shower to use. You may also want to look into the ones that you attach to your taps, which can help cut down on expense. Trying to choose between your bedroom and living room as the next area to buy for can be difficult. While you need somewhere to sleep, you always want your house to start resembling some type of home. The benefit is that you can focus on the living room and still offer yourself a place to sleep. Sofa beds are relatively affordable or you can opt for a futon instead. These pull out so you have a bed and also somewhere to sit on during the day. Something else that is important, but you may have forgotten about, is where you will place your clothes. Living out of suit cases and boxes will be fine for a while but it can get a little tedious. You need to start thinking about buying wardrobes and drawers for all of your belongings. Now it is time to start thinking about how to make your house somewhere that you want to be and somewhere that is you. Once you have the essentials out of the way, you can start thinking of coffee tables and the cabinets to display your possessions. You may also want to start setting up your office or the space bedroom for your guests. Having a place for your TV is something that many couples will think about but you will also need to consider where you are going to eat your meals. If you have a dining area, consider buying a dining table with chairs. You could also put small ones in your living room or kitchen, if it is large enough. Shop around for affordable options. There are a number of free websites to help you. It is worth shopping around online and in the newspapers to find cheap furniture for your home. Make sure you have a list of everything that you want before you start shopping, so you do not end up spending money on something that you really do not need.
