The Internet is likely the greatest invention of our generation. Not only used for pure research and sharing of information, as the forefathers of the Internet intended, it is now used for entertainment and social connection as well. In some countries, the Internet is deemed a basic human right, and to withhold it from somebody is deemed criminal. The fact that you are using the Internet this very moment is testament to its power.

However, as awesome and useful as the Internet is, there are some dangers that you need to be aware. This is the intention of this article, to help make you aware of the dangers, and to help you figure out how to fight them. If you don't realize just how terribly your computer and your data can be destroyed, you put yourself at enormous risk.

The first danger is spyware. What is spyware? Software that covertly enters your machine and steals information is called spyware. What you type, who you chat with, what emails you send are all vulnerable to these powerful programs. And it goes without saying that any personal information you transmit through the Internet, such as social security information, credit card numbers, etc., can be picked up by spyware. At the very least spyware can slow your computer considerably, as it takes up valuable resources.

The next is adware. Adware sometimes can use the information taken by spyware, and use it to try and sell you things. Do you wonder why those pop up ads appear on your computer seem to try and sell you things you are sort of interested in? Now you know. Sites that you visit regularly can give these programs a clue to your interests, so they know what to try and sell you. And just like spyware, adware and slow your computer down to a crawl, as it is always hogging valuable processor time.

The next, and most dangerous software out there is malicious software, or malware. This software is designed by people that only want to harm your computer and your data. These will erase your hard drive, make copies of themselves and send them out to everybody in your email list. Originally referred to as computer viruses, these programs intend nothing but harm.

So what do you do? How do you protect yourself? You need to have a robust anti spyware and anti adware program installed on your computer. This will not only keep new software programs from sneaking into your computer and doing harm, but they will also get rid of the stuff you already have. To stay safe and secure while you are on the Internet, get yourself a powerful spyware killer as soon as you can.
