The Nokia 6760 Slide: Messaging Optimized

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articlesbacklink.com/rss.php?rss=32
By : Paul Wise

The Nokia 6760 Slide might be thought of as the bigger cousin to their 6600i cell phone, but that idea would be misleading. The only similarity between these two models is the sliding form factor, and even then, there are differences in the way each one slides (namely, vertically or horizontally). Otherwise, they are not similar at all - so disabuse yourself of the notion now! In fact, the 6760 Slide is barely more than a European version of the earlier Surge model of smartphone, which is available only through AT&T in the United States. Indeed, the only areas of difference between these two models are camera resolution and carrier exclusivity.

The 6760 Slide is a 3G phone with 2.4 inches of screen real estate at 320x240 TFT pixels and 16 million colors. The 3.2 megapixel camera is a slight improvement over the 2.0 variant on the earlier Surge, with video recording at the standard QVGA resolution. Because the 6760 Slide will not be tied to one particular carrier, it comes with the typical pre-installed software suite, including Nokia regulars such as Nokia Maps, with A-GPS support for 3-D landmark and terrain mapping and Message Reader, which will read text aloud for those who can't or won't look at the screen themselves. Reflecting the company's oft-stated wider long-term strategic marketing visions, a ton of messaging and social media capabilities are provided for easy access to Google Talk, Windows Live IM, Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace. The 6760 Slide runs on the Symbian Series 40 platform, marking this model as an entry-level offering despite a fairly powerful feature-set.

The 6760 Slide is compatible with Bluetooth 2.0, and offers microUSB connectivity as well. Audio is piped through a standard 2.5mm jack. In common with most Nokia phones these days, there is also a built-in stereo FM radio player. MicroSD cards are supported up to a maximum of 8GB for additional storage space, with a 2GB card included. This phone is available in black, white, or red color schemes. Talk-time is rated at a respectable five hours, and standby is a healthy five hundred.

The Nokia 6760 Slide offers the same larger-sized keys as the American Surge, and looks like the Sidekick smartphones that are so popular among youth in the United States. Nokia's own official press release declares the 6760 Slide a "messaging optimized device," and it's clear that the company believes social media fans to form the target demographic for this model.
