If you are in the midst of a divorce and think that your spouse is hiding money, or items worth money from you, an asset search may be just the thing you are looking for to prove this. Speculation of assets will not hold up in court, and this is why you need to prove assets, before you end up in a court setting.

When you hire a company to do an asset search you will need to provide some information so that this search can be performed correctly. You will need the persons name, address, phone number, and social security number. This is all the information that you need to provide in order to perform a complete asset search. You may find that there are assets that you were completely unaware of and this may provide you with items that you may be entitled to.

Different states have different laws when it comes to a divorce and you will want to work closely with your attorney in a divorce situation to decide what you may be entitled to. Some people never suspect their spouse of hiding any assets from them, but then perform the search and are surprised at assets that were unknown. This can cause feelings of anger and betrayal, but you may get some satisfaction knowing that discovering hidden assets before a divorce proceeding can result in a larger settlement or support for you.

An asset search can be performed in no time and you may have the results in a week or less. This can be very helpful if you are facing a court battle soon and you need these records in a hurry. You will want to share these results with your attorney immediately so that they can guide you on how to proceed next. Your attorney may be very pleased with these records and you can make their job much easier when you have the proof in hand.

If you perform an asset search after your divorce is finalized it can be too late, and finding hidden assets when it is too late can lengthen and deepen the feelings of hurt and betrayal that are often felt during a divorce. You will want to perform this type of search early and use it to your full advantage. If your spouse was spending money that belonged to the both of you without your knowledge, it can lessen your hurt feelings by getting the divorce settlement you are entitled to.
