By : Levi Reiss

San Lorenzo is a Fifteenth Century Basilica in central Florence, a short walk northwest of the Duomo, the Florence Cathedral. You should definitely visit this beautiful building and the surroundings. You may want to consider a hotel in this neighborhood that tends to be less expensive than if you are right around the Cathedral. You may find the short extra walk well worth your while. For your convenience these hotels are listed in approximate order of cost, starting with the least expensive. We have personally verified that all hotels listed have an English-language website where you can obtain more information.

The Johanna I is located right in central Florence. This is a budget hotel and may well deserve your consideration. It was a Nineteenth Century Palace so you are allowed to dream. Every room has an Internet connection. Check out their website for other hotels run by the same people. Their address is Via Bonifacio Lupi 14, San Marco and they have 10 rooms.

Some of the Antica Dimora Firenze's rooms offer a private terrace. This hotel has a privileged relationship with Marchese Antinori, a great Italian winemaker in the Chianti region of Tuscany. You can combine your Florence vacation with a visit to the medieval village of Badia a Passignano that belongs to the Antinori family. The village hosts a famous restaurant with an exceptional wine cellar. Or you can visit Procacci, a Florentine café and wine bar which is famous for its truffle sandwiches. The hotel address is Via San Gallo 72, San Marco,

The Bellettini is a three-story hotel with some triple and quadruple rooms. Their breakfast buffet can keep you going for quite some time as you wander in central Florence. Some of the 28 rooms have Wi-Fi. This hotel address is Via dei Conti 7, Santa Maria Novella.

The Hotel Casci is located in a Fourteenth Century Palace. This hotel has been in business since 1926 and is proud to be the first hotel in Florence providing hot and cold water in all rooms. There are 24 rooms some of which are triples and quads. They even have two quints, rooms with a children's alcove. The hotel offers a buffet breakfast and does have a coffee shop. Their front desk runs 24/7 which is not the case of all the neighborhood hotels. The hotel address is Via Cavour 13, San Marco.

The Il Guelfo Bianco is located in a Fifteenth Century building. One of its special features is a great collection of modern art. If you like the older stuff you need only stroll a bit to the Galleria dell'Accademia, which is home to Michelangelo's David and a whole lot more. A whole range of rooms is available and you'll enjoy the upscale restaurant featuring products from the family's organic farm. The hotel address is Via Cavour 29, San Marco.
