The actual numbers speak for themselves and what they point to is the giving of gift cards as being one of the fastest growing holiday and birthday trends going right now. In fact in just one year between this year, and last, US sales of gift cards jumped almost 30% which is huge considering that it happened during a global recession. So then just what are some of the reasons why people are giving them? To begin with it's the "tasteful alternative" to sending cash instead of an actual gift. Admit it! How many times in your life have you had to go out to shop for a gift and you wished that you could just send cash. Money with a note that says something like "here go buy what you want". We've all felt that way before. Particularly when shopping for teens, or folks who already "have everything". Then you just can't deny the convenience factor, and it really doesn't get any easier than this today. In fact with just the simple click of your mouse on your computer screen you can get your entire gift shopping over and done with in mere minutes, and even have them all sent out too. Or, if you're in a rush and doing some last minute shopping for someone you missed, you can have yours sent by overnight express mail if you wish. Then how about for holiday shopping? Have you ever wished that you could do all your holiday shopping starting the day after the holiday season is over with? When all the prices drop like a rock and all the stores are having clearance sales on the exact same stuff you paid top dollar for just a week or two earlier? Well now with these cards whoever you give them too can do just that! Now with the cost of designer fashion accessories, clothing, jewellery, perfume, etc only going up, the last thing you need is to get it wrong when you buy something as a gift. Now with a card that risk is "completely eliminated" because you're lucky recipient gets to go out and pick out exactly what they want off the racks. No more concerning yourself if someone "really liked" what you selected for them. Then the final "icing on the cake" is discounted cards that you can buy online, and the savings can run as high as 35% in some instances. It's almost like picking up free money right of the sidewalk because you're converting a $50 or $100 bill into $67 or $135 in actual gift shopping. So now once you add up all the benefits, it's not at all hard to understand why this gift shopping trend has taken off the way that it has.
