There are both digital and mechanical, or magnetic, lighting ballasts. By definition the device is a symmetrical AC current that provides near-constant current and near constant power, as well as an appropriate igniter for starting. In addition to those general categories, the devices can be broken down even further to include HPS ballast. The name of this lamp ballast is an abbreviation for high pressure sodium. The high pressure sodium design is used to help plants grow indoors and outdoors, an example of which would be hydroponics. The device is used with a high pressure sodium bulb, creating a stable system that provides enough light to keep plants healthy, growing and in prime condition. Basically, a natural growing environment is being recreated. The closer to a plant's natural surroundings an environment gets, the more likely the plant is to thrive. This is important when plants are being cultivated for resale or when an owner places a high priority on his plants and what they are able to yield. Bring the plants indoors already helps protect them from dangerous climatic occurrences, as well as bugs and pests. If that kind of effort is going to be made, it goes without saying the owner will also want to create the ideal growing environment indoors. There are several components that go into creating a high-quality high pressure sodium system. This allows the lighting structure to work properly. The first component is housing. The lighting mechanism must be kept inside of something that keeps the components cool. The right kind of housing system spreads the heat that is generated in order to prevent overheating. The power cord is another part of the system. These are almost always detachable. Users can change cords and switch out for ones capable of handling higher voltage. This is a great feature, especially when there is a difference in the capacity of the system and more power is needed. The circuit breaker is usually able to be programmed on the system. This allows it from shorting out when it in use. Since the purpose of using a system like this is to provide plants with consistent, long-term lighting, the last thing an owner needs is to short out the system to find out the plants have been in the dark for hours or days at a time. Preventing the circuit from breaking is of utmost importance in order to have a consistent lighting source. Otherwise, your plants are gong to struggle and they might as well have been grown outdoors at great risk, but with the adequate amount of sunlight. When choosing the system that works for you, consider each of these components and get the highest quality system you can afford. If you are going to invest in growing, you might as well invest in a lighting system that will protect and nourish your plants. Since many owners use their plants to generate income, it is important to view your lighting choice as an investment and not try to cut corners too much.
