In the 1700s, the Kings Cross was known as Battle Bridge and that is where its history begins. It got its original name from a crossing over the River Fleet. Later on in the 19th Century, the place was given the name Kings Cross. At this time, King George IV ruled and his sculpture was put up at the junction of The New Road and Maiden Lane. Currently, these roads are called Euston Road and York Way. Afterwards, the sculpture at the intersection was destroyed but the name stuck and is still in use today.
