A Argument As To Whether Colo Is A Better Option Than Picking Dedicated Hosting

The importance of having an IT facility to the success of the business is a known fact among many small businesses as well as new businesses.. However, not all of them can afford the mere cost of staffing and maintaining an IT facility not to mention the initial cost of setting one up. Of course, there are two solutions for meeting the IT needs of such businesses.. The first solution is renting a dedicated server, while the second option is commonly to choose one of many colocation data centres..

Renting a server from a company that rents out servers to companies in need of IT solution instead of buying a server is what renting a dedicated server is all about.. However, the company would have total and complete ownership and can be used as deemed fit by the IT staff of the company to meet its IT needs..

Having a colocation server on the other hand involves the company keeping it server with the servers of other users on a communal site which would be managed by the colocation company.. In essence, the colocation company would be responsible for the maintenance and safety of all the servers in its care as well as updating information to the server on behalf of clients..

There are obviously both advantages and disadvantages to dedicated servers and colocation, but the advantages of colocation, invariably makes it a preferred choice to renting a dedicated server. The general assumption is that you must have had a website for needing a server, and your server is expected to generate high volume of traffic in the not too far future.. Simply put a website that generates much traffic consumes a lot of bandwidth which could be very expensive, a in-house IT expert can estimate how much the bandwidth would cost and you can have an idea of the level to which it would raise your over head costs.. However with colocation, you don't have to worry about the consumption and price of bandwidth that is for the colocation company to handle

Another obvious advantage of colocation is that it enables you to focus on your core business.. Having to worry about constantly keeping your IT systems up and running can drain lots of time and energy from you.. It is even possible that you will lose sight of your values and business mission in the struggle to maintain a state of the art IT facility as well as providing protection from all forms of threats.. However, collocations companies have already covered all the angles.. There is always a backup system the generates electricity should there be power outage.. Loss of data is virtually non-existent and should it occur, the data would be recovered in no time. With colocation, you can be sure that you have a dedicated team keeping an eye on your server. So you do not have to worry about maintenance and above all the fact that you have your server offsite makes it safe from unauthorized access as well as the theft of data.
