LG Cell Phones, the third largest cell phone provider on the market today, plans to unleash 20 new smartphones in the year 2010. That is an absolutely astounishing number, even if they fall short and say, release only 10 to 15 onto the market. The move was sparked by increased profits last quarter and the continued persistence and need to gain more ground in the smartphone market, due not only to increased consumer demand but also their trust that they can begin to dominate the market.
While the third largest handset maker, LG Cell Phones, sits in the top three it is not due to its overwhelming presence in the smartphone market. But this year the company hopes that will change. They are poised to aggressively counter their rivals Motorola Cell Phones and Others in hopes to gain a larger share of the smartphone industry. It seems they are just one of several companies now coming to the realization that the market is moving away from the basic phone and being consumed by the smartphone, business and multimedia phones of the present.
LG Cell Phones say that they will be using Google's Android software as the base for these 20 phones. While 20 may seem like an oversaturation, if done properly, perhaps not. Imagine if they were to make 20 smartphones and every two or three of them were targeted for a specific demographic or niche. For example, a couple business savvy phones, a few phones rich with multimedia functions, a few high-end camera phones, a couple crossover devices, a few standard middle ground smartphones and then round it out with a few very specific phones, say television or music related. This seems like it would offer a bit of everything to everyone and it could make a serious impression on the market.
Whatever LG Cell Phones reveals to us in the next year, some of it will undoubtedly be successful. And they need to make a push like this anyway as there seems an unprecedented amount of mobile phone companies have gone from shying away from the smartphone industry to embracing it, just as the public has done, wholeheartedly. So let's get excited that so many companies are appealing to the general consumer needs and wants and let's hope that those are met with smart innovation and excellent quality. LG Cell Phones has been spectacular in the industry up to this point and there is no reason to expect them to slow down.
