How to Increase Your Donations

In order to acquire donations, you and your organization need to radiate confidence, good-will and courtesy. If you demonstrate self- respect this will translate into how your clients respect what it is you're representing. Being grateful for donations of any size is crucial to allowing people to feel comfortable in giving. You also want to provide an idea to the donors of what their money will be used for or to whom it will go.

1. Having a business plan is helpful to providing information to donors for how their money will be put to use. A 5 year business plan is especially helpful here because it shows how large sums of money will be put to use.

2. Letting people know where the organization currently stands financially is important. Even if it is a projection, it will give potential donors an idea of the status of your company and your need for financial help.

3. Brochures are especially helpful in doing this. If the organization is just getting started, it will show how money will help the company achieve what they want to do, as well as providing information about who to contact to give.

4. During a campaign to recruit donors, delegate specific roles to people to ensure that no one is overwhelmed. For example, having people make calls and others answer calls is a good idea, and money matters are for another person.

5. Advertising is also important. By making it known that donors who give more than, say, $50 will have their names enshrined on bronze plaques or memorial walls, you are more likely to have more donors. Creativity also enters in here because you want your flyers or banners to be appealing and tasteful.

6. The internet is another good way to allow people to donate. Again make it clear that with a certain amount, donors will be part of enshrined on a tree of life or donor plaques.

7. Approach businesses and organizations. They usually have money and are more willing to part with it for a good cause than an individual who has just taken out a second mortgage. When dealing with larger businesses, speak directly to one person who is in charge. This will save you time and confusion.

8. While most people are more willing to give to non-profit organizations, they will gladly give to a for profit organization if they understand that the services the organizations provides are beneficial to their community. Look for people who are directly tied to your services and who will feel the benefits of helping your organization. Many nonprofits are eligible for grants from the government, and other companies or foundations are also willing to give grants.

Once you've found generous people, it's important to make them feel appreciated. Having bronze plaques or memorial walls is a great way to say thank you because it allows your donors to feel that they will be remembered for time immemorial. By following these tips you will be generating monies from donors of all sorts!
