Pet Odor Air Purifier---5 Features To Avoid

If you love pets you know they come with odor. And if there is a urine problem as well, you need an air purifier that can stay ahead of the smell. Avoiding cleaners with these 5 features will help you choose a unit that will really eliminate the odor for good.

No Carbon---Because it is so well known for its ability to absorb gases, odors and chemicals, a cleaner for odor that does not have carbon is not going to work. 15 pounds of activated carbon is best. Carbon made from coconut shells should be your first choice.. The harder the carbon the better the absorption rate is. Carbon from coconut shells is particularly hard and as such is more effective.

No Additive For Ammonia---As effective as carbon is at absorbing gaseous pollutants, it will still need help if it is to successfully absorb urine odor day in and day out. Choose a filter that has an additive that will enhance carbon's ability to remove this ammonia- based odor. Otherwise the smell will persist.

Single Filter---It is not possible for one filter to eliminate all the pollutants that pets can create. One filter is an indication that you will need to change the filter frequently.. Instead look for a canister of filters that contain both a carbon filter and filter designed to remove particles. A large and medium particle pre-filter will eliminate those airborne particles that you can see. These filters will also prolong the life of the smaller particle filter which your unit should have---the HEPA.

HEPA or high efficiency particle arresting filters are essential in a pet air purifier because it is capable of removing the dander (dead skin flakes), as well as the bacteria and viruses that often attach to larger particles and spread disease and infection.

One Speed---When life comes at you fast you need a cleaner that can keep up. Life changes and your air purifier should be able to change as well.. Choose a unit that gives you at least 3 fan rates..

For days when not much is happening, the low speed is usually adequate.. For days when there are more smells or particles in the air, being able to literally crank up the speed to medium or high will help keep the air smelling fresh and clean.

Plastic Case---Many plastic air purifiers tend to off-gas fumes once the motor heats it up. The last thing you want to do is to pay money to pollute your air. That's why steel cases are best. Steel won't off-gas.. And there is also virtually no chance that your pet can chew off a piece of the unit and be injured or choke on it.
