A rug is covering for a floor but they also have many uses. Some people invest in rugs for a variety of reasons, from keeping warm with them to collecting them. Many individuals collect rugs in the same way people collect art. In some instances the reasons for collecting rugs are similar to the reasons for collecting art; rugs are unique, many rugs are hand made and many rugs are very old. A rug can brighten up a room. If a person wants a rug to brighten up a room then a rug that is made with bright colors will work. A brightly colored rug can make a dark and depressing room that does not have many windows look and feel much warmer and brighter. A rug can make a room look more spacious. One great thing about rugs is their ability to make a room look much bigger than it is. A rug with small patterns on it, if placed in the correct spot in a room, will make the room look bigger. A rug can accent a piece of furniture in a room. A rug can be purchased to accent a piece of furniture by matching the colors in the furniture to most of the colors in a room. The rug can than be placed in front of the furniture. An example of a rug highlighting furniture is a smaller rug being placed in front of a couch with similar colors or in the middle of several pieces of furniture to tie them all together. A rug can be used on a wall as art. Instead of putting a rug on the floor it can be mounted or hung on a wall to be seen and not walked on. Almost any rug is a potential candidate to be hung on a wall. When placed on the floor a rug can help to make floor warmer. Many hard wood or tile floors are cold to walk on. Individuals can lay a rug on the floor to help insulate the room and to keep their feet warm. Rugs are great for absorbing sound. Individuals who live in apartments with neighbors below them can lay a rug on the floor to help absorb sound from walking and to prevent sound from transferring up through the floor. There are many uses for rugs; however, whatever a rug is used for they all have one thing in common; they are all beautiful and unique.
