You've planned this for a long time. You're going to live abroad for a few years, have some adventures, fall in love, and meet interesting people. By the time you come back you'll be a different person. Here's how to do it. It helps if you can get dual citizenship so that you don't have to have a work permit to continually renew (and which may or may not be continually granted). If neither of your parents are Irish or Finnish, you may seek a student visa. Even if it's just classes for the local language, you will become much more marketable when proficient. Plus, when you are a student you are allowed the costs of student living in dorms and when traveling within the EU. You can also take a class and develop a different perspective on a topic you once thought you knew well. Be careful though! Being a student and finding a well-paying job so that you can support yourself can be demanding. You can always teach English in a foreign country, but there may be tests and accreditation processes you don't want to deal with. Plus the country you really want to visit may not offer you a job. Women can be au pairs, but remember that you will have to be subject to the desires of the host family you're living with. Skilled migrant programs or eased work permit programs are other ways to get a job abroad. The latter means that once you have a job your employer won't have to jump through hoop after hoop to allow you to live in that country. Being a skilled migrant means that you have a higher level degree and you can travel before you've gotten a job. After you decide how to stay in Europe for more than six months, buy your Europe airline tickets. Start researching where to live once you arrive. This isn't necessary, but it may save you money if you have a place ready rather than staying at a hostel for $40 per night. It may be better to visit different areas of the city where you want to stay before choosing an apartment. After you've decided where to live and how to make money, you're all set. Well, kinda. You will probably encounter all kinds of issues that will make the trip a life changing experience - because, hey, if it were easy, you might as well stay home.
