One of the most common allergies is a food allergy. An allergic reaction to food can have some serious consequences. You should watch the foods you eat when you have this type of allergy.

One thing that can be frustrating about a food allergy is that it can show up in minutes and this is often the easiest to detect, or it can show up in days and this is the frustrating part. If your food allergy shows up in day's time it can be very hard to diagnose. You can trace back the foods you have eaten and this can help you trace an allergy.

Corn can also cause food allergies; others include wheat, soy, eggs, milk, and yeast. You might have noticed that these are also some of the most common ingredients in many of the foods we eat each day.

Peanuts are often an allergy that has to be monitored very closely. Some people cannot even be around others that have consumed peanuts or in a place where peanuts are served.

You will want to know the common symptoms of a food allergy. Abdominal cramping is a sign of a food allergy. This can also be a sign of food poisoning as well. If you are having an allergy you will often have the cramping on every occasion when you are exposed to the food. Food poisoning is often an isolated event.

Swelling of the lips, face and tongue is another symptom of food poisoning. This can be one of the most frightening symptoms and can even become life threatening. If you have a severe allergy you not only want to know what foods you can and cannot eat, but you also want to know what to do in case of an emergency.

Some people need to carry epinephrine as a precautionary. If you are not specifically preparing your food, you never know if the ingredient you are allergic to could show up in your meal. If you have a precautionary measure in place, you will have some peace of mind when you are dining out.

You should still make a restaurant aware that you have an allergy. You should be very specific that you are not simply saying that you do not like something. You might talk to a manager and this can make sure you are taken care of. A food allergy does not have to prevent you from living.
