The benefits of red wine have been talked about for centuries. It is now being toasted as one of the "superfoods" of the 21st century. This is great news for drinkers who love red wine, but what about the millions whose wine of preference is white. Are there no benefits to the wine they love? Well the fact is there really isn't since the secret to the healthfulness of red wine is in the skin of the grapes used to make the wine. The antioxidants found in the purple grapes are some of the most powerful found in nature. They are even more powerful than vitamins E and C. The grapes have these potent polyphenols as well as flavonoids, phenolic acid and several other bioactive chemical compounds. Scientists have yet to find a way to duplicate these compounds. Red wine also boast a compound called resveratrol, that shows promise in the fight against disease and it is said to also help with anti-aging efforts. It protects the heart and brain from biochemical damage as well as reducing inflammation in the cells and joints. These compounds are found in white wine grapes but not to an extent that would be viable as a preventative solution. While most doctors are reluctant to go on record as supporting the use of wine for medicinal preventative purposes the facts are undeniable. Even though red wine has a high alcohol content, if used in moderation you can reap the benefits without risking the fate of over indulgers. Which is healthier red or white? All research points to red wine being the winner of this particular debate. Keep researching this new avenue of prevention and you will learn more ways that drinking red wine is helpful to the human body.
