By : Levi Reiss

The Aurelio district is an extensive, quiet area in southwestern Rome. Its name comes from the famous Via Aurelia, which was the main artery connecting Rome with Spain. Aurelio includes the beautiful Villa Pamphili park whose centerpiece is a Seventeenth Century country house decorated with statues and low-relief sculptures. Another highlight is the San Pancrazio church built by Pope Simmaco about fifteen hundred years ago to honor the martyr Pancratio. The Vatican Walls were built around the same time to help defend the Vatican. Make sure to see Porta Pertusa and Porta Fabbrica. Via Piccolomini provides a splendid view of St. Peter's Dome. For your convenience we have listed neighborhood hotels in approximate order of cost, starting with the least expensive. We have personally verified all website addresses making sure that they include English-language pages.

The Residence Aurelia Antica is a three star hotel quite close to the Villa Pamphili. If you come during the summer you'll be able to enjoy its open-air swimming pool and four tennis courts.
