When you create a website for your business, no doubt you have all sorts of people telling you, "You need to market your website." Since article marketing is such a user-friendly and effective marketing tool, it is extremely popular with small business owners who are doing their own marketing for their websites. Maybe you've started doing some online article submissions, but you're just not sure what your ultimate goal is supposed to be. Why exactly do people do article marketing? In this article I'm going to outline the top 3 reasons why people write online articles, as well as give you some article marketing tips to help you make the most of these benefits. 1 - Your articles give you a prime opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of your topic. Why is that important? If you can convey to your readers that you know what you're talking about and that you can be trusted to give them good advice, then your articles will be more useful and more valued. If you are a business owner who offers services (coaching, accounting, etc.), then before a person decides to become your customer, they may Google you to gather more information about you. If you have been submitting quality articles that clearly demonstrate your knowledge of your topic, then those articles will show up in searches. If someone is considering using your services, then their confidence in you increases when they see that you are actively working to educate people about your field. They can actually see your thought process and some of the excellent information that you have shared through your articles. This goes a long way toward building customer confidence. 2 - This second reason goes hand in hand with the first--you show your expertise in your field by providing educational information for your target readers. Target readers are the group of people who are most likely to be interested in a website like yours. These are people who are already interested in your topic. You write your articles to address their needs and concerns. With all of your articles, your primary aim is to help your reader solve a problem. Your articles should teach your reader something. 3 - The third reason for submitting articles is to build links to your site. With each article that you submit, you will also have a resource box where you can tell about yourself, your business and give a link to your website. This link to your website is extremely valuable, as it is sort of like a "vote" for your site from a search engine's perspective. An increasing number of "votes" (links) for your site from relevant websites can help your own website receive a higher ranking in Google and the other search engines when someone searches for keyword terms associated with your site. What naturally follows from this higher ranking is more people finding your website when they do searches. An increase in website visitors who are interested in your topic can lead to more sales. This last reason is so exciting that people sometimes mistakenly make building links the sole focus of their article marketing campaign. Unfortunately, this is just not the way that article marketing works. The links to your site are a by-product of submitting quality educational articles, but you can't get the link to your site unless your article is useful to readers and written in a way that it makes sense. Otherwise, publishers just won't publish your articles. When doing article submissions, I encourage you to focus on the top two reasons for writing articles--demonstrating expertise and teaching your readers. If you can do those two things, then the building of links naturally follows.
