If you have a little bit of a bigger belly than you would like and have the desire to get rid of some fat in order to get lean and ripped for the summer you might think that doing a serious amount of "fat burning cardio" as well as crunches is the right idea, but you are flat out wrong. The idea that cardio will help burn fat is true, but the reason you cannot burn off the last few pounds is because it's hard to push your body into a high metabolic rate through traditional cardio. It's just not challenging enough. The body needs to get challenged beyond it's current state in order to get lean. You must provide the body with a reason to burn off the fat that the body naturally wants to hold on to biologically. The body does not want to "starve" and therefore holds on to fat as energy if a potential famine occurs. That's how it would survive. So in order to get leaner you need to push your body outside of it's comfort zone so to speak. You have to make it wan to burn fat, by feeding it constantly and training in a way that is very demanding for the body. That means high intense resistance training and if you do any kind of cardio, do it high intense interval training style. That means you go hard and then rest, then go hard and rest etc. When training this way the body needs to adapt to the new stimulus and it will do this by burning of fat as energy. Your body will get an increased metabolic rate which will allow you to burn fat 24/7 even while watching TV. Traditional cardio will not do this for your body. The other thing is abs workouts of any kind. All they wil do is help strengthen your abs and make them "bigger", but in order for them to "pop out" and become seriously visible you need to burn the fat that is covering your abs. This is the hardest part for most people to understand, but once you get a grasp of it and get a hold of a good training program and stick to those methods you'll see the fat practically melt away. It's a very interesting topic and if you are not gifted with perfect genes like myself you need to push your body to the extreme to get the six pack abs you want.
