Gain a Great British Smile

If you want to achieve the perfect smile then you should visit a dentist in the United Kingdom.

For too long people in UK have had their smiles criticised by from those across the pond but there is good news for Brits as recent research has revealed that they have a more genuine smile than their American counterparts.

Psychologist Dacher Keltner discovered that the British smile is the most sincere transatlantic smile as it is typically created by pulling the lips back and upwards, which exposes the lower teeth.

By contrast, an American smile is achieved by parting your lips and stretching the corners of your mouth but this is easier to fake and therefore less genuine that the Great British grin.

Scientists have reported that the most representative British smile is that of Prince Charles because it is restrained at the same time as being dignified so if you want to attain this look then consult your local dentist.

The Hollywood smile may not be the ultimate grin to gain as the study's researchers found that people could spot the differences between the British and American smiles more than 90 per cent of the time.

While this study may suggest that UK smiles are superior, Brits are putting their grins at risk by failing to have an effective oral hygiene regime in place, which will increase the chances of getting gum and teeth disease.

Teeth care product manufacturers Eludril and Elgydium found that almost one fifth of people brush just once a day, while a third confessed to never flossing and just 14 per cent flossed once a day.

These substandard oral hygiene practices can lead to people suffering from a build up of plaque and this may result in gum disease which significantly increases the risks of contracting coronary artery disease.

If you start to notice that your gums are feeling sore or swollen then you should visit the dentist immediately as this is an early indicator of gum disease also known as gingivitis.

Other signs of gum disease are bleeding and receding gums so if you start to experience these symptoms then it is advisable to make an appointment as quickly as possible.

Tooth loss in adults is most commonly caused by gum disease so if you want to avoid damaging your smile, then you should brush at least twice a day and floss once every evening or morning.
