Since 1888 when the first Kodak hit the market, photography has been considered a great pastime and hobby for many people. Now that we're in the digital age, we've become photography obsessed. It's never been easier to take photos and share them with friends, and even strangers, all over the world. If you're buying a digital camera from your local electronic shop for the first time, it can be an incredibly overwhelming process. Just look at all the ads everywhere for all the different types of cameras available. In addition, you could exhaust yourself trying to read all of the reviews for digital cameras online. There are millions! In today's electronic market, there are hundreds of thousands of cameras to choose from, and when considering the options, you have quite a few things to think about. The hundreds of choices in the discount camera store don't make it any easier for you to make your selection. You have to decide between point-and-shoot and SLR, and how many megapixels you want, what type of zoom lens, and tons more. To make your life more difficult, there are new products constantly being added to the market and models are frequently being updated and placed on the shelves in your electronic shop. There is nothing more frustrating than buying what you thought was the latest and greatest camera, and two weeks later the maker announces the next version. Suddenly your fancy new camera that you just painstakingly selected, and spent hard earned money on is obsolete. As an attempt to make the decision process a little easier, here are 3 things you should look for in a camera while you're shopping around in the discount camera store. These should help you narrow down the selections and find something with the features you need that fits your budget. 1) Megapixels: The number of megapixels a camera uses is a primary selling point for cameras in your neighborhood discount camera store. Megapixels relate to the images resolution. So your looking for a camera with more professional photo results, you should look for something around 9.0 megapixels. If it's only something for taking personal photos, look for something in the median range of 3.5. The standard for what is considered good changes frequently. A few years ago, the standard for good megapixels was 1.3 and 5.0 was considered top shelf, so be alert of current standards. 2) Recording Capabilities: Is recording video something you'd like to be able to do with your camera? Most of the found in your typical discount camera store come with this very handy feature that is perfect for capturing your personal events. You can have all the perks of a digital camera and a video camera in one pocket-sized piece of equipment. If you're interested in creating longer, digital movie, be sure to look at the maximum recording time on the camera, some are longer than others. 3) Optical Zoom Lens: If you're planning on using your camera for more advance projects, you should look for a camera with a good optical zoom lens. Most cameras found in your typical electronic shop include a digital zoom lens, which only enlarges the image. This is great if you plan on using your camera just for taking snapshots of friends and family. However, if you're planning on taking more artistic and professional photos, you should look into a camera with an optical lens.
