They will likely want to do it themselves, but often won't be able to discern what is essential for the trip and what is not. You do not want to end up at the beach with no bathing suits or at the slopes without skis. Look out for their best interests. If your children are very small, you will have to do the packing yourself.
Like most things, travel can be made easier with some planning. Thinking ahead will allow even the largest of families to ease through airport security with little to no hassle. As long as you know what to expect, you should be in the best sort of shape.
