Items You Need For A Canoe Or Kayak Adventure

Outdoor adventures come in all shapes and sizes and if you are planning one that involves traveling on the water, there are plenty of things you need to have. Some items are meant to keep you safe and others are meant to make your experience more enjoyable. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, you probably enjoy shopping for equipment as much as you enjoy the experience of using the equipment. Most people with a hobby love collecting the items that go along with the hobby and make it more enjoyable. Those with a passion for the outdoors are no exception and it is a lot of fun shopping for canoe accessories and kayak rigging materials.

The most important thing you will need to stock up on is safety equipment. Though all of the items available on the market are not necessary to keep you safe, they do help and you can never be safe enough. If something draws your attention to safety issues and gets you thinking about using caution, you are more likely to be careful and safe during your outdoor adventure. Take your time thinking about the safety equipment you will need. Determine what your budget is for safety equipment. You should make it your number one priority when investing in your hobby, but most people do not have an unlimited budget.

More than many other outdoor hobbies, you are going to need a lot of specialized clothing. There will be plenty of opportunities when you are on the lake or river that you get unexpectedly drenched. You are going to need to have spare clothing with you to keep you dry and comfortable. At the very least, bring along extra socks and shoes, especially if you are hiking in and out of your location. Walking in soaking wet shoes and socks is one of the least fun aspects of enjoying an outdoor adventure.

There are many occasions where you want to travel on a river or lake that is pretty far out of the way. You might have to hike to the location and in some instances you will need to stay overnight. Some people plan trips down rivers that require several overnight stays and you will need plenty of camping equipment to keep things comfortable. However, you also need to keep in mind that you will need to transport everything you need for your trip, so prioritize the items you need.

Finally, you will need to bring along food and water. The length of your trip will determine how much food and water you need, but even the shortest trips require a few bottles of water and some snacks. It might come as a surprise, but even short outdoor trips take a lot out of you and you will need to replenish. Remember extra water if you are traveling on a day that is particularly hot and sunny. For a shorter trip, a few energy bars or some granola packed in waterproof bags should be enough.
