Are Knee Walkers the Right Mobility Products for Me?

Before you know it, the warm weather is going to be here again, and I can't wait! Some people, however, might not be looking forward to the new warmer weather simply because they have a hard time walking. This could be because they have a sprained leg or ankle, or because they have a more serious leg injury. Fortunately there are products out there that can help you get around better. And, as probably noted by your doctor, it's actually good to use these mobility products because then your leg won't get stiff.

Oftentimes when a person has a broken leg or sprained ankle, they won't get up and walk around on the other leg for fear that it's going to cause more problems because they are less balanced. But lazing around and not getting up can also cause more damage than benefit because it often causes the legs to become stiff or weakened. You also need the exercise, even if you do have something wrong with your leg or ankle! Over the years more and more manufacturers have come up with ways for people such as yourself to become more mobile, even when they do have injuries.

One of the more popular mobility options over the last couple of years have been manual wheelchairs. Alternatively, some people love rolling walkers, which can be thought of as a walker with a seat on it. You can either sit on the seat while moving yourself across the floor, or you can even use the walker as a resting place. My grandmother has one of these because she can't stand on her feet for very long. So when we are out shopping sometimes she will just "sit a spell" as she says.

Another incredible set of products are knee walkers. These are essentially a split between manual wheelchairs and rolling walkers. The design is simple — a knee walker usually has a frame with wheels on it and a padded seat for the injured knee or foot to rest on. The other foot is used to push yourself around while using the handlebars to steer yourself. Think of it somewhat like a bicycle. One of the reasons people like these so much is because unlike crutches, which can sometimes be awkward, knee walkers offer a whole different level of balance for the user. Usually when someone has crutches they also only use them for the essentials — when they absolutely have to get around — because the experience is so unpleasant.

But people use knee walkers all the time for all sorts of things, because they are balanced and comfortable to use. Some of these products like the knee walkers, manual wheelchairs, rolling walkers and rolling walker with seat make the convenience for you even better by allowing the frame to be folded up when not in use. This makes the products space savers, which is especially good for a product like the manual wheelchairs because they can become quite bulky.
