When it comes to buying or owning an expensive watch, it's not only important to try to keep up with the overall maintenance of the watch, but also to take care of the timepiece when it's not in use. Just like larger electronics can get ruined by dust and grease, watches work the same way. If you own a Girard Perregaux watch, for example, you're going to want to protect it at all times, as this timepiece is worth several thousand dollars. When it comes to storing your watch, there are a few different products you can use in order to keep it safe. All of these going to protect your timepiece from dust and oils, in addition to preventing the crystal from getting scratched.
First off, you can keep your watch in one of your regular jewelry boxes. These are usually made of wood or plastic, and will be big enough to accommodate your timepieces. One reason I don't like keeping my Girard Perregaux watches in jewelry boxes, though, is that they will be mixed in will all my other jewelry, which could lead to scratching. Frankly, I would rather have a watch box for all my watches or individual boxes for each timepiece.
Individual watch boxes will obviously be just the right size for your watch, but some people with multiple watches prefer collective cases. There are going to keep all of your timepieces in the same place, in addition to keeping them safe. Having all your watches in one place is going to make it easy to compare watches when you're trying to decide which one to wear. You can visually see all of your watches at once, which will give you a better perspective when choosing a watch for your business meeting or for your tennis match. These watch or multi-watch boxes come in all sorts of materials, sizes, shapes and colors.
You can even get a watch box with a glass top to show off your collection of Girard Perregaux watches! Some of these boxes will also include an extra drawer or section for your other watch pieces like watch faces, bands, bracelets, etc. With your Girard Perregaux watch and your watch box, you can also add in your repair kit as well. Keep everything together!
Remember, even if you are storing your Girard Perregaux watch in a box, you still need to clean it every few months, and you should never use the regular cleaning products you use for the rest of your home. These cleaning products are meant for your household appliances and can end up corroding your watch. Instead, use a special cleaning kit and soft towel to clean your Girard Perregaux watch. If your timepiece is primarily brass or stainless style, you will have to clean it slightly less frequently, as it will not be as susceptible to dirt as most other materials like stainless steel and mirrored metal.
