A home with a dog is a very common feature. Dog allergy sufferers are also very common and this presents a problem for many families. The first thing you want to do if you think you have a dog allergy is to get this confirmed. Just because you visit a doctor for a diagnosis, you do not have to start any treatment regimen right away. A doctor will likely prescribe a medication right away. This can give you some short term relief, but you will not get rid of your allergies completely. You might have to remember to take a pill before activities that cause an allergy and this can be easy to forget. Pet allergies are not something that only presents in childhood. Pet allergies can show up at any time. You might have had dogs all of your life and then when you reach a certain age, you are plagued with an unexpected allergy to your beloved pet. If you have an allergy that presents later in life, you may not be able to simply get rid of your pet. Most pets are family members and someone would never get rid of a family member. Instead of coughing and wheezing in your own home, there are some things you can do to ease this tricky situation. You should wash your hands any time you have contact. It can be difficult to not pet your animal and you can do so, but you should be diligent about hand washing. You can keep this pet out of the area where you sleep. Sleeping with an allergy can be very difficult and you should make sure that the area where you sleep and rest each night is pet free. It can be a big help in a home to remove carpet. Carpet can hold dander and other irritants that your pet can bring in from outdoors with them. Hardwood floors are more conducive to relieving allergies and this can be a big help in a household that has a pet and an allergy sufferer. A dog allergy does not have to prevent you from owning a dog. There are some simple measures you can take to relieve suffering with an animal in your home. You will be able to prevent symptoms from occurring and you and your pet will live in a happy home.
