VoIP was once a phrase that seemed foreign and oddly futuristic. There was a time when the idea of calling someone else on a phone over an internet connection seemed highly unlikely. Now VoIP is being found not just in the business office but at home as well. This kind of telecommunications services provides a ton of great features but the one that comes standards is the ability to make long distance calls without crazy charges. VoIP telephones run on your internets IP address. Think about how far and wide your internet connection reaches. You have the ability to talk to your neighbor next door or a pen pal in Australia. That's why using that technology through a phone system has been a great step forward in telecommunication services. The ability to call long distance benefits a home VoIP phone service because it can keep you in touch with family and friends easily. Years ago, it was hard to make that call out of the country when the minutes racked up. Even with a calling card, you were limited to how long you could speak with someone and it often didn't feel worth it. But VoIP phones have the ability to let you talk unlimitedly, while you pay one flat fee instead of keeping track of your time and being scared of what the phone bill looks like at the end of the month. You already know the price you are paying and can take advantage of it. For businesses, it allows your business to expand to even larger clientele. Whether you do business with other companies or one on one with purchasing customers, you'll be able to bring your services to a broader audience. Sure, you can already ship products internationally to consumers but you can give far better customer service over VoIP phone systems than just e-mail. People like to talk directly to a company because they feel they are heard, not lost in an inbox. Recently it's been shown in studies that people are talking twice as long on VoIP phone systems than regular land lines. Part of the reason is the lower price and ease in contacting people who live long distance. With this continued growth, we may see land lines becoming VoIP lines in most homes as well as businesses. Technology has come a long way in letting us keep in touch easily and affordably.
