After you've been writing articles consistently for a while, you may start to notice some unusual quirks popping up in your behaviour. You may not notice them at first, but sooner or later you'll take a step back and say, "Hey, that thing that I do without even thinking about it is a little odd." Here are 7 quirks that I've noticed in my own life as an article marketer. Do you see yourself in any of these? Can you use any of these behaviours to help you write more productively? 1 - Are you so hooked on Top 5, Top 7 and Top 10 lists that you will deliberately knock an item or two off of a list or stretch to add an item or two on to a list to reach one of these magic numbers? I do this all the time without even thinking about it. For some reason a Top 6 list just doesn't have the same ring as a Top 5 or Top 7! 2 - Do you ever try to "trick" yourself into writing more efficiently? Especially during times when I just don't feel like writing, I sometimes resort to turning writing into a game. I'll tell myself, "Dinner is in 30 minutes--see how much of an article you can write in that time." Or, I might issue myself some crazy challenge, like writing a whole month's worth of articles in one day. (I write 8 articles a month, so it isn't completely far fetched, although it is much more than I usually write.) If I've been struggling with procrastination, sometimes a totally radical challenge is enough to get me moving in the right direction at least. 3 - Do you ever look at some of the article ideas you've jotted down and wondered what in the world you were thinking? Sometimes the inspiration is in the moment only, and you just can't remember where you wanted to go with that idea when you look at it a week later. A trick that I have for this is to go ahead and write an intro paragraph whenever I get a flash of inspiration. Then, when I look back at the article idea, I at least have a head start and have a much better chance of figuring out where I was going with the idea later on. 4 - Do you have tons of article ideas that you've never developed? I have over a hundred ideas that seem to be perpetually in "draft" mode. I look over them sometimes and then say, "Nah, I don't feel like writing an article on that today." I'm sure that at some time in the future I will stumble upon some of these drafts and feel like I've discovered a gold mine of ideas. Until then, they sit in draft mode though... 5 - Do you ever dangle a carrot in front of yourself on days when you need to write but don't feel like it? I like to offer myself potential rewards for writing. For example, I'll promise myself a special treat in the afternoon if I can write a few articles in the morning. This technique is extremely effective, in my experience. 6 - Can you not resist re-reading your articles that you see published online? If I run across one of my articles on a website, I always find myself reading the article as if I've never seen it before. In reality I've read it a million times before submitting it, but I enjoy seeing my articles on a new website and can't seem to help re-reading the whole thing. 7 - Do you have a special fondness for some of your articles? It may seem strange for people who write so much to have certain "pet" articles, but I certainly do. There are some articles that I particularly enjoy writing, and from time to time I like to look at the article views to see if others are appreciating the article as much as I do. Adopting some of these quirks may actually help you write more productively for article marketing. Others are simply odd. What about you--have you noticed any quirks in yourself as you write articles on a regular basis?
