Fashion Problems Facing Tall Women

Tall women have to face a set of fashion problems that are often baffling. It would seem with the modelling industry showing the world clothing and fashions set on tall women models, that the clothing available in the stores would be friendlier to a tall woman. Unfortunately that is not the case. Tall women run into a variety of snags when looking for stylish clothing.

An unspoken fashion problem tall women face is the search for a proper bathing suit. Bikini's are simpler; the length of the torso doesn't matter as much. But when trying to find a suit that fits a tall woman, there are problems finding one that is long enough to offer coverage.

The main problem though and the hardest thing to purchase is of course a pair of trousers that fit. When your inseam is longer than 32 inches the choices are limited. Thankfully there are specialty tall women's shops so that you do not have to be resigned to shopping in the men's department.

For many people, trousers are a daily staple. They are worn to work, to party, to meet friends and to travel. Having options is important. When a tall woman finds a pair or brand of trousers that fit well, it is wise to purchase a few pairs. If you want to de-emphasize your height then wear a pair that is cuffed. This look shortens the overall look of the leg.

After so many years of having trouble finding trousers that fit, a tall woman may not know exactly what a good fitting pair of trousers should look like. Especially if they have been making do with what they can find in mainline stores. Guidelines for finding a pair of trousers that fit include knowing where the trousers should end. Trousers should clear the floor by a quarter of an inch, and the instep should be covered with the front grazing the top of the shoe. If you are planning on wearing the trousers with different heel heights, leave an extra 1/8th inch of fabric in the length to accommodate the higher shoe.

The problems that tall women face when shopping for clothes can be balanced by the problems faced by short women. The items that cannot be worn by short women without fashion adjustments can be embraced by tall women. Case in point, the cargo pant. Cargo pants, with their ballooning volumes of fabric should be paired with a shoe with a heel on a shorter woman, while a tall woman can get away with this fashion trend with a pair of flats for a fun casual look.
