Like most other businesses, the price you pay to hire a moving company will often depend on supply and demand. If you hire a mover to move your household in a month when there isn't much demand you can often save money and eliminate a lot of stress. During what months do most people want to move? The vast majority of folks move between May and September because most people want to move when school is not in session. During What Months Should You Schedule Your Move? So, if it's possible to arrange your move for another time of the year you have a considerably better chance of hiring a high quality moving company to take care of your move. And ironically if you do have school aged children it may be better for them to move during the school year rather than over summer vacation. You see, since your kids are going to move into a new neighborhood, going to school will give them the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy their fifteen minutes of fame because of they are literally the new kids on the block. Also, if you move during the summer months, your neighbors may be taking their children away sending them to camp. And financially, most moving companies have lower prices between the months of October and April. What Part of the Month Should You Move? Almost everybody wants to move either at the very end of the month or right at the beginning of the month. That's because the mortgage or the rent is usually due on the first day of the month. But if you can make arrangements to make your move around mid month you'll increase the chance that you'll be able to get the best crew from the moving company you want. And you will probably be able to pick the exact delivery date and time that you want your things picked up. How Far In Advance Should You Book Your Moving Company? You should book your moving company a minimum of six weeks before your planned moved. If you wait until the last minute you might have to settle for poorer service and higher prices. Plan as far in advance as you can so you will have the time to compare prices and services that the various moving companies offer and then be able to hire the company you want. How Can You Find the Best Moving Company? One of the best things you can do is get personal references from friends and family. You can search the Internet for companies that have been in business for awhile and then check their references. You may also want to choose a moving company that's a member of the American Moving and Storage Association. Movers that are part of this association have agreed to arbitrate disputes that arise from loss or damage to things being shipped for up to five thousand dollars. If any of your possessions are damaged and you've hired a certified mover you could save the cost and hassle of taking the mover to court.
