Getting married... Wow... What a great a day. The perfect dress, the cake, the flower arrangements, the crazy mother-in-law, all the last minute preparations, that friend from work you did not invite, the stress, the nerves, the tears, the wine stain on the jacket... can you remind me why am I getting married again? I think I'm going nuts! Indeed, weddings can become quite a hassle to put together. There are so many things to take care of and sometimes it feels like having a second job. Which you are not getting paid for. And costs a lot of money. And heartache. But! Ask anybody who eventually made it through the process and walked down the aisle and they will that there is nothing quite like it in the whole wide world. Yup. It's worth it. I mean just think about the memories! Yes the memories. because one day you will sit with your better half by the fire and look through that wedding album and see that what is left is sweet sweet memories, and a lot of pictures of a hot blonde chick at the bar. But wait... who is that girl anyway... isn't she a waitress??? Many couples discover, and way too late, that they picked the wrong photographer. I mean, your cousin? Seriously? So what if he has a DSLR? Doesn't make him a photographer does it? You might not realize now that the Jewish wedding photographer you pick for your wedding is responsible for all of what's going to be left after the big commotion is over. So how can you make sure that you picked the right NY Jewish wedding photographer? Here's a few pointers to think about: - Word to mouth. Some of the best Jewish wedding photographers out there are what's called "best kept secret" so if you hear or see a good photographer and you like his work - go for it! - Check portfolio and equipment. The photographer you're talking to might say he is the best thing that ever happened to you but shoots with a crappy 1970's Polaroid. Visit the guy's website and see if you like his line of work, his touch and vision and then see if you should start making business together. - Talk money. And not just how much will it cost to hire the guy. You might not think about it now, but most of the costs happen after the weeding. Wedding albums, online galleries, photo enlargement and post-processing, what happens if friends and family would like to order prints, how much would that cost, duplicate prints, folios and thank-you-cards. Need more questions? Alright! How long are you in business, what happens if you mess up? How would you make my wedding unique? Seriously! There are various styles of photography and you should be able to choose your preferred one whether it's photojournalistic, classic, traditional or mixed. Listen, like with anything else, there are tons of choices and options and you have to come to the right terms with your NY Jewish wedding photographer. Most professional will lay out the works in front of you so you don't have to be so frightened. But still, it is always smart to do your homework and please, remember to have fun!
