Ideas to Bring More People Into Your Restaurant

With the economy struggling, it has become more important than ever for restaurants to sell themselves and offer something special and different to its customers. Here are some ideas for attracting more customers and setting yourself apart from the crowd.

What is the difference between a Big Mac and a Whopper? Secret sauce of course. Although most people know and understand that Burger King's "secret" sauce is simply Thousand Island dressing, the extra ingredient and catchy title have made Whoppers memorable and intriguing for years. California Tortilla likewise offers over seventy-five different hot sauces on their "Wall of Flame" for those brave souls who are willing to try them. Whether you choose to include a secret ingredient or offer an amazing variety of a "special" condiment, topping, or food item, adding something different and special will help you stand out from the competition and gain you repeat customers.

If it isn't possible for you to offer something different, why not do something standard or simple, but make sure you do it better than anyone else? For example, Claim Jumper's Restaurant, a chain in the Western United States, is known for having the most amazing Chocolate Éclair ever. People will rave about their éclair years after having tasted it - it is just that good. Perhaps your restaurant could be known for its comprehensive salad bar or incredible sushi. Whatever item you choose, make it the main attraction of your menu. Other examples include places like Red Robin, which is known for their burgers, The Cheesecake Factory for their Cheesecakes, and the Golden Corral for their buffet.

Many restaurants find a theme or cultural food category to be the most profitable way of standing out. For example, Xuan's Saigon is a local Vietnamese restaurant that my husband and I enjoy when we get in the mood for some noodle soup. South of the Border or Outback are two more examples that encompass Mexican and Australian cuisine respectively. If you choose to showcase a cultural culinary experience at your restaurant, be sure you keep the theme continuous throughout the whole restaurant. From the décor to the way the servers greet people to the name of your dishes, make dining at your restaurant like stepping into that country.

This article barely scratches the surface of things to consider. Opening a restaurant can be a time comsuming process. Make sure you do your research before you jump in.
