Are you expecting your first baby? Then you're probably having a great time shopping around for baby crib bedding before your newborn arrives. But beware - some of the nursery bedding sets that you see might look terrific but there are a number of things you have to consider before going ahead buying them in order to keep your baby happy and healthy. Whether you shop online, go into a baby supply store, or look in a catalog you're going to see the most adorable designs that have tiny animals, little flowers, cute little cartoon characters, etc. They may be adorable but if they are made of the wrong material they can do your newborn more harm than good. Some of the quilts and blankets that are on the market today may either contain or be entirely made of acrylic and / or polyester. These fibers are manmade. They are essentially a form of plastic. When babies sleep their body heat can cause these fibers to release gases that can irritate their tender skin. Although it might not seem like it at times, your baby is actually going to spend about sixty percent of his or her first year sound asleep. In order to keep your baby safe and warm the best type of fibers to use for their bedding are natural. Cotton fabrics are considered to be the safest. Cotton is durable, light, and "breathable". Cotton will help to prevent your baby from overheating. In addition, cotton is durable and cotton bedding will last a long time. Because of that cotton crib bedding is considered to be very affordable as well as safe. If you want to be especially careful you should consider buying only certified organic cotton. Because some studies have indicated that infants that are exposed to pesticide residue absorb and retain them more so than adults, organic cotton bedding would be an excellent choice that will keep your newborn safe from this type of exposure. So when you're designing the baby's nursery and looking at bedding sets that come with matching sheets, crib bedding with bumpers, comforters, pillows, and dust ruffles, the first thing that you should consider is the fabric it is made out of. Take a look at the label before you look at the design. If you carefully plan your nursery it will be safe as well as good looking. Your baby is going to spend more time in bed than you do. When you properly prepare you will not only inspire sweet dreams, your baby will sleep snugly, soundly, and comfortably.
