That old country charm is becoming quite popular again. The roof can be traditionally framed above these enormous rafters or you can set panels that are already insulated atop your roof system. The logs are chinked to seal everything. The chinking is a weather tight seal that keeps the weather and insects out. The log cabin makes up some of the beautifulest houses in the woods. A log home or addition has to fit its setting. They are a little more labor intense, specially when it comes to trim work. It is all worth it when everything goes together and blends in for that natural woodsy look. There are many places that specialize in log homes and additions. You also can get them in kit forms. These kits can be constructed by anybody that has basic construction skills. They are like a giant set of lincoln logs. The beauty of a log home is one great reward. They are actually very structurally sound. The insulating value of logs does not carry a high r value but they have been proven to be very energy efficient. As long as they are kept up a log home or addition is a great choice.
