Here's Why Playing The Guitar is So Popular Today

When you learn to play a musical instrument, any musical instrument, you will discover a pleasure not found anywhere else. Music is the true mark of humanity. Many people, despite having a desire to play an instrument, can sometimes have problems when choosing which one.

Many have a childhood experiences of being "told" which instrument to play. When I was a kid, for the longest time I was thoroughly persuaded to take up the piano, but somehow I resisted. Once we get older though, we can choose our own instrument. So among the many instruments that you can choose from, which one do you choose? There are a few things to consider.

First of all, imagine that you are playing your chosen instrument. Are you playing by yourself, or are you a member of a band? Playing in a band or quartet, you have many instruments to choose from, from the violin to the triangle. If you imagine yourself playing a complete song without any other instruments, then the choice is a little bit easier to make.

The piano is a very popular instrument. Most musicians, despite the instrument of their speciality, can play the piano. Most houses with musically oriented parents have a piano. If you were like me, when you were a kid, you may have been "forced" to play the piano. There are several advantages indeed to playing the piano. Almost any song can be played, in it's entirety, on the piano without the need for any other instruments. Some of the world's most beautiful melodies were written specifically for the piano.

The piano, however, has one major drawback. It is very big, and very heavy. You can't bring it with you on a date to play for your girlfriend or boyfriend, and you can't bring it to parties. Another drawback of the Piano is that they can be extremely expensive. Even if you manage to find an old, second hand piano somewhere, it will likely cost you in excess of a thousand dollars. In addition to that, you're going to need somewhere to put it. For this reason, the piano isn't usually the instrument of choice of adults who would like to take up a musical hobby.

What is clearly the most popular instrument for adults today is the acoustic guitar. Like the piano, you can play almost any song by yourself, without needing additional instruments. But guitars are very portable. You can take them to parties, or to school, or even downtown to play on the corner if you're brave enough.

Another reason so many people enjoy learning the guitar is that it is relatively simple to learn just a few basic chords. And with few basic chords, you know enough to play along with almost any popular song you hear on the radio. And compared to the price of a piano, the guitar is again the hands down winner. You can easily find a guitar for under a hundred dollars that will serve your purpose.

These are the primary reasons that the guitar is clearly the most popular instrument today. Portability, accessibility and ease of use make the guitar an instrument that will be around for a long time.
