It's no secret that children who study a musical instrument at an early age do much better in school later on in life. Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with having such a lucky childhood.

Nevertheless, as we grow into adulthood, many of us have a deep desire to study and learn a musical instrument. Something about being able to pick up an instrument at a party or gathering of friends and create a beautiful piece of music on the spot is incredibly appealing.

The reasons for this are obvious. Those that can play a musical instrument are seen as more outgoing, charismatic and magnetic. If there was a choice between talking to somebody at a party, most people would choose the person who just played a sweet song on his guitar versus the guy standing in the corner holding a drink in his hand while anxiously eyeing the crowd.

Obviously, there are many different instruments that you can choose to play. If you only want to play music in the privacy of your own home, with or without guests, the piano is likely your best choice. You can play any tune on a piano without needing any other instruments. However, if you desire to be able to play in public, either at parties, public gatherings, or even street corners, the acoustic guitar is likely your best bet.

The acoustic guitar is far and away the most popular instrument of choice for many reasons. Simplicity of use, ease in transporting it wherever you go, and the fact that most popular bands today are centered around a skilled guitar player make this instrument an incredible draw for most people.

You can get usually get an acoustic guitar for under a hundred dollars, and within a few hours of practice, you can easily be playing along with your favorite band. In general, learning basic chords is the route that most people take, followed by playing individual notes, and sequences of notes. It goes without saying that the more you practice, the more your skills will improve. When you develop your skills more and more, you'll enjoy a much obvious positive reaction from the people you play to.

Playing the acoustic guitar is easier than ever, as there are many places that offer lessons for free, or at a very affordable price. Your local neighborhood music store, most community colleges, and recently several web sites are sources for free, or relatively inexpensive acoustic guitar lessons. If you have any desire at all to learn to play the acoustic guitar, there has never been a better time than now to get started.
