Activity Ideas for the Part Time Nanny

When you are a part time nanny, you'll find that spending a lot of time with the children you care for means having to be more and more creative. After all, doing the same things over and over again can get stale for both you and the kids.

Art and crafts are a go to past time and a safe bet for all ages. For the younger set, crayons and markers are the best idea as they are easy to use and make the least mess. Make sure they are the easily washable kind just in case the kids want to really draw outside of the lines and paper! For their age, simple things like coloring books or just free drawing is usually best so they can do their own thing.

For the older elementary school age, you can start to use the really fun stuff like glitter glue, sequins, pipe cleaners, and all sorts of other pieces that can be used in crafting. One popular craft project that is easy for home is to make a paper bag puppet. It's as easy as turning a brown paper back upside down and using the bottom flap as the face and mouth. Googly eyes and construction paper are great for making the face.

Consider as part of your part time nanny duties taking your children out on a trip. Going out to places together further solidifies the bond between you and them. It also give them something to look forward to other than just being home all day. Look for local arts and crafts places that have classes for toddlers all the way through older children. Creating pottery or painting ceramics is a great way for them to get a little creative and also be out of the house.

Museums are another fun choice. Consider children museums specifically as they are geared to safe and fun learning. Check out other local museums for interactive exhibits so the kids can feel involved in what they are learning.

The park is a tried and true location. Instead of just bringing them there and letting them run around while you stay off to the side, get involved. Help them across the monkey bars, push them on the swing and get into their imaginative play. Be a character in their world and you might find that both parties end up having a lot of fun when the day is over.

Getting involved and coming up with interesting activities for your kids is a way you can provide the best nanny service you can.
