Avoiding The Weight Gain In College

I am sure we have all heard of the term 'freshman 15.' When you go off to college, it is very easy to gain some weight. Depending on where the dining hall is, it can be easy to go down, get something to eat, and then not get any exercise for the rest of the day because you are studying really hard. If your dining hall is in your dorm hall, make sure you get out for a walk at least once a day. If you have your own apartment or house you can check out a treadmill sale. If you live in the dorms, you could go to the gym where they have Olympic plates.

The nice thing about college is that there is usually a gym and it is usually a free membership because you are paying the tuition and the cost of it is covered. The reason people gain weight when they go to college is because they are studying late at night and they like to have many late night snacks. Eating late at night makes you gain weight because you go to sleep after and do not burn off the calories you just ate. There are also a few other reasons like having food available whenever and having the choice of getting whatever you want.

There are many unhealthy foods in college cafeterias. There are fried foods, candy, sodas, and ice cream. All of those things sound so good that many people do not care what they eat and just go for whatever looks the best. You need to have fruits and vegetables too or you will get sick and gain lots of weight very fast. That freshman 15 can easily turn into more than just fifteen. If you watch what you eat, it will be less likely that you gain weight.

It is important not to worry too much about your weight, but it is important to make sure that you are healthy. Having ice cream once in a while is great and you can do that but do not eat ice cream twice a day every day. Sometimes, you have to go for the fried foods because you are running out of time. If you have to do that, grab an apple or some carrots as well and then you will get some nutrition. Go for the water instead of the soda and you will stop losing weight in no time.

Everyone understands that college is a time to make friends, and most importantly, do well in school. It can be hard at times to make time to exercise, but if you manage your time, you will find that you will be able to do it more often. You do not even have to leave your dorm room to do it if you do not want, buy a workout video and do that instead. You will not have to leave and you can do it whenever you find a few minutes of extra time.
