These days, market is flooded with variety of toys. There is wide range of toys available for different age groups. In fact, you should always buy toys by age. A child learns and grows by playing. Toys are his play tools. However, these play tools should be age appropriate. While choosing the toys, first understand which type of toys would be suitable for which age. Different toys are meant for different age groups due to interest level of the kids and the safety concerns. For instance, a toy with small parts is not recommended for small kids since it poses a choking hazard. Likewise, a toy meant for infants would surely bore older kids. A toy meant for older kids will frustrate young children. Let us learn about the toys by age or age appropriate toys for each age group. This understanding of age appropriate toys will help shopping right toys for your child without frustrating him. Below 12 months: Children below 12 months are still in the process of discovering their senses; sight, sound and touch. At the same time they are getting aware of their surroundings. These children get stimulated by any bright thing they seen near them. They want to hold it and explore using their mouth. For them, most appropriate toys by age are rattles, teething toys, soft toys and stuffed toys. However, make sure that toy does not have any breakable part or soft toys do not have any embellishments such as googly eyes; these can pose choking risk for the child. 12 to 18 Months: The toys by age for these age groups are the toys which can give some action to the kids such as toys with knobs and dials. For a kid who has just learnt walking love to have fun with push toys making sound. You can opt for toys that close and open, push and pull, twist and turn. These children get entertained by the toys which they can manipulate. Do not give them toys which have small parts. 18 to 24 months: These kids get excited by different shapes, colors and patterns. For them most suitable toys by age are blocks, letters, foam shapes, push and pull vehicles that make sounds. Here, you can introduce toys that help improve their hand and eye coordination and motor skills. You can give them large building blocks. 2-3 years: The age appropriate toys for these kids are the ones which enhance their imagination and creativity. You can buy toys that resemble real things such as toy house, kitchen set, toy tool set, fake cell phones, dolls, vehicles and others. Preschoolers: By this time, children have developed interest for certain types of toys such girls playing with dolls, doll houses with furniture, barns with animals, doctor sets and others. Boys love to play with vehicles, blocks, game kits and more. It would be waste of time, effort and money if you do not buy toys according to the age of the child. The key is to purchase the toys that suit the child's age and interests and grow with them.
